Breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure to raise sagging breasts by removing excess skin and reshaping the breast tissue into a youthful contour. A breast lift does not increase the size of the breasts, although if the patient desires larger breasts, implants can be inserted at the same time. Mastopexy raises the level of the areola (which can also be reduced) and gives a more youthful appearance to the breasts. Mastopexy is an outpatient procedure. We can almost always do the surgery under twilight sleep anesthesia as an outpatient. Mastopexy surgery does involve scars around the nipples and underneath the breast. Depending on the degree of sagging, the scars may be smaller. The scars usually fade with time.
